Matt Trail
The Death Angel came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Trail,
December 11, 1951, at the hour of 10:05 p.m. and took away Matt
Trail, son of Osburn and Mary Jane Trail. He was born in Morganfield,
Kentucky, May 10, 1869, being at the time of his death 82 years,
seven months and one day of age.
He was united in marriage to Adah Scott Dec. 24, 1891. To this
union six children were born: Ollie C., Springfield; Muriel Mirse,
Golconda; Roxie Threlkeld, Titusville, Florida; James O. and ShirleyTrail,
Joliet, and Noble Trail who preceded him in death at he age of
three.
He lived on a farm in Kentucky until 1916, and at that time he
moved to Golconda. He operated the Golconda Ferry for a number
of years and later served as mail carrier from Golconda to Vienna.
In December 1944 he had an illness which gripped his body. For
seven years he was never on his feet.
He was interested in music and dearly loved to sing. Many times
listening to the radio quartettes he sang along with them.
Before passing, he said, "It seems that seven years is a
long time to suffer." Yet he greeted all who called on him
with a smile and a pleasant word. It was often remarked that
he certainly endured his suffering with courage. He often stated
to visitors before the end came, "I'm ready to go."
He leaves to mourn his passing five children named above; to brothers,
Elza Trail of Murray, Kentucky, and Edd Trail of Lola, Kentucky;
eleven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; many other relatives;and
a host of admiring friends; together with his devoted companion,
Adah Trail.
