Martha L. Vaughn

Martha L. Vaughn, daughter of Jackson and Nancy Vaughn, was born in Pope County, April 20, 1851, died at her home, four miles north of Golconda, on Sunday, September 5, 1926, aged 75 years, 4 months and 16 days. She was married to John A. Finney, of Golconda, November 18, 1869, and to this union were born five children: Charles, of Indianapolis, Ind.,; Mrs. Lula Tichenor, of St. Louis; Eugene and Frank, both of Golconda, with whom she made her home, and John of Los Angeles, all of whom are present at the funeral but John, the great distance preventing him from coming. She also leaves her three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. N. M. Black of Baxter Springs, Kans., whose advanced age made it impossible for her to be present on this occasion. Her husband died 32 years ago and since that time she has remained a widow and at his death assumed the care and responsibility of raising her family, which required a brave heart in those days. Mrs. Finney was a strong believer in God and always lived a Christian life but never united with any church. She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother and a good and friendly neighbor to all who knew her.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o' clock at the Carson funeral home, conducted by Rev. C. L. Phifer, after which the body was laid to rest in the Odd Fellows cemetery on the hill.
