JOHN R. HARPER
John R. Harper, aged 63 years, passed away at his home on North
Kingshighway in Sikeston, early Tuesday morning, after a lingering
illness of leakage of the heart. Mr.Harper was born in Glendale,
Ill., March 1, 1863.
In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Mollie Edmonson at Anna.
Ill. To this union there were born four children, Ernest, Lewis,
Della and Ella. Lewis having preceded his father in death many
years ago.
Mr. Harper was engaged in the grocery business in Sikeston for
five years until about a year ago when he retired on account of
ill health. He was a member of the Baptist church and a good Christian.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Mollie Harper, he leaves to mourn his
passing, his son, Ernest; his daughters, Ella and Della, two brothers,
Dave Harper of Glendale, Ill., and Lewis Harper of Matthews, and
two sisters, Mrs. India Whitesides of Creal Spring, Ill., and
Mrs. Dora Waters of Matthews.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church, Wednesday, at
2:30 p.m. Rev. S. P. Brite officiating. Interment took place in
the city cemetery. The Herald joins with the community in extending
sympathy to the bereaved.
