Etta Faulkner Burklow
Etta, daughter of Lewis and Mary Maxfield Faulkner, was
born at Anna, Ill., August 31, 1880; departed this life March
14, 1962 at the age of 81 years, six months and 13 days.
Etta was oldest daughter in a family of 13 children, all of whom
have preceded her in death except one sister and two brother.
On March 12, 1899 she was united in holy matrimony to H. N. Burklow.
Together they made a home of happiness, contentment and joy.
Christ the head of the house music the accompaniment. Uncle
Newt was a teacher of sacred music and Aunt Etta loved, shared
and enjoyed his work. They spent much of their entire life in
and around Eddyville.
Two children came to add happiness to their home, a boy, Atlas,
a girl, Floe. On February 26, 1919 when Atlas was a young man,
God in His great wisdom saw fit to call him home. Leaving a vacant
place in the home and hearts that never was filled.
Early in life Aunt Etta took Christ as her personal Savior and
guide. Later under the ministry of her son-in-law, the Rev. Willie
Thomas, she was baptized and united with the Pleasant Hill Cumberland
Presbyterian church.
The life of a sweet wife and mother, has silently come to an end.
She has left this weary road of life, to enter that glorious
repose of eternity, where suffering, good-byes and heartaches
are unknown.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her aged companion with whom
she shard 63 years of life, H. N. Burklow, Eddyville, Ill.; one
daughter, Floe ( Mrs. Willie Thomas ), Brownfield, Ill.; two grandchildren,
(Virginia) Mrs. Roy Rambo, Paducah, Ky., and Dorris Thomas, Brownfield,
Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Karen, Kenneth and Kevin Rambo,
and Twila Gaye Thomas.
One sister, Mary Linson, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; two brothers, John
Faulkner, Grantsburg, Ill., and Connie Faulkner, Ozark, Ill.,
and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends too numerous
to mention.
"The righteous live forever, and the care of them is with
the most High: with His right hand He shall cover them, and with
His arm shall He shield them. For we know that if our earthly
house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of
God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, 1962, at the Eddyville
Methodist church with burial in the Boulden cemetery. The Rev.
George A. Phelps and the Rev. Erastus Barger officiated. Aly
Funeral Home, Eddyville, was in charge of arrangements.
