Rachel Elizabeth Wright Von Tungeln
Rachel Elizabeth Wright Von Tungeln was born to James and
Lula Caldwell Wright on August 22, 1906. She left this world to
be with God on March 12, 1996 at the age of 89.
On November 3, 1929, she and Cecil Ernest Von Tungeln were married
and started a long and loving life together that ended with his
death on June 15, 1975. They devoted their lives to their children,
Betty and James Brooks and George and Marilyn Von Tungeln. She
also leaves to mourn her death nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-granddaughter.
Rachel is survived by one brother, Glen Wright, and his wife,
Faye; and one sister-in-law, Maude Von Tungeln Wright.
Preceding her death were her husband, her parents, two sisters,
and her beloved son-in-law, James Brooks.
Rachel and Cecil were farmers for much of their lives and later
owned and operated a small business in Golconda. She also served
as postmaster in Brownfield for a few years.
She was baptized at an early age and she and Cecil were lifetime
members of Mt. Zion Baptist church. She was pianist, Sunday School
teacher, and served her church in many other capacities.
Rachel and Cecil will be missed by a large number of friends and
neighbors in the Golconda area.
