PERRY J. AUSTIN

Perry J. Austin, 80, of 1318 South McKinley St., Harrisburg, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. He was born on October 8, 1916, in Carrier Mills, son of the late Loren and Osbia Wallace Austin. Mr. Austin was formerly employed as a meat cutter at A&P and IGA. He graduated from Carrier Mills High School with the class of 1935. On April 9, 1944, he married the former Gladys Morris, who preceded him in death on March 22, 1997. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Bill Balabas of Harrisburg and Carolyn and Roy Jurjens of Bethalto; a brother-in-law, Harry Morris of Harrisburg; two brothers, Paul Austin of Carrier Mills and Gene Austin of Eldorado; a sister, Frances Thornton of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Andrew and wife, Michelle DeBose of Dayton, Ohio, Tina DeBose of Wood River, Bradley Balabas of Carterville, Jason Balabas of Urbana, Lynn Jurjens and Christina Jurjens, both of Bethalto; and a great-granddaughter, Hanna DeBose of Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys; a brother, Lee Austin, and a sister, Muriel Patton.
Graveside services preceded burial at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg. Dr. Roger Lyons officiated.
