Schuyler Lee Kerley
Schuyler Lee Kerley,
son of Schuyler Y. Kerley and Bertha Dixon Kerley Hardin, was
born April 3, 1910 in Johnson County, Illinois. He passed away
in his home at 708 South Poplar in Creston, Iowa, Sept. 28, 1985.
Schuyler was married to Vera B. Estes
Jan. 5, 1930 at Grantsburg. To this union were born three children.
In the early years of their marriage he was employed by the state
of Illinois. In 1940, Schuyler moved his family to Dixon, Illinois.
During World War 11 he was one of the original staff members to
open the Green River Ordinance Plant in Dixon. As the administrative
assistant he aided in closing this same ammunition plant after
the war ended.
Moving to Winterset in 1947, he was a
district manager for Massey-Harris Farm Equipment Company .Schuyler,
Vera, and their son, Sky, moved to Creston, Iowa in 1952. They
operated Kerleys TV before retiring in 1977 due to illness.
Schuyler was a member of the County Line
Baptist Church in Flatwoods, Ill. and the Masonic Lodge No. 43
of Winterset, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; three
children, Mrs. Vivian Dennis and husband, Robert of Vista, Calif.,
Mrs. Maxine Sieleman and husband, Rod of Des Moines and Schuyler
L. Kerley,111 of California. He also leaves one sister, Wyona
Glenn of East Alton, Ill., one brother-in-law, Robert Coppersmith,
of Palatka, Fla., five sisters- in -law, Ruth Kerley of Florida;
Frances Kerley of Nevada; Violet Howell and Charlene Slack of
Grantsburg and Brooksie Turner of Marion. Eleven grandchildren,
( ? ) Kerley, Bruce, Eve, John and Rene Dennis, Roberta Golike
of Calif; Jeff and Tim Sieleman, Tersa Long of Des Moines; Tina
Cotton of Denver, Colo; and Airman Todd Sieleman of Lakenhearth,
England. In addition there are ten great-grandchildren plus numerous
nephews .
He was preceded in death by his parents,
three brothers, three sisters, and one great-grandchild. Funeral
services were held Oct. 2, 1985 at the Coen- Beaty Funeral home
with burial in the Graceland Cemetery at Creston.
